Most home energy calculators online are made by HVAC companies, insulation manufacturers, solar installers, or utility companies. They all have something to sell. We don't.
EnergyWise Tools was built by a credentialed building performance professional with real field experience — someone who has performed residential energy audits, taught building science courses, and seen firsthand what the utility company's initial assessment leaves out. Every tool here is grounded in established building science, not marketing copy.
The goal is simple: give homeowners the information they need to make smart decisions, in plain English, for free.
Common Questions
Are these tools free to use?
Yes, completely. No account, no email address, no signup. Open the tool, enter your numbers, get your answer.
Do these tools try to sell me anything?
No. EnergyWise Tools has no affiliation with any manufacturer, contractor, solar company, or utility. We don't sell products, services, or referrals of any kind.
Should I go solar before improving my insulation and air sealing?
In most cases, no. Solar generates electricity, but it doesn't reduce how much energy your home wastes through the building envelope. A leaky, under-insulated home requires a larger — and more expensive — solar system to offset the same load. Improving the building shell first reduces your energy demand, which makes solar smaller, cheaper, and more effective.
How accurate are these calculators?
These tools use established building science formulas to give you a realistic estimate. Real results vary based on your specific home, local climate, utility rates, and installation quality. Think of the results as informed estimates to guide your decision-making — not a guarantee of exact savings.
